Sultan Muhammad V The 15th Yang Di-Pertuan Agong

Today marks a very special occasion for Malaysians witnessing the ascension of His Royal Highness Sultan Muhammad V and sworn into office as the 15th Yang Di-Pertuan Agong. The welcoming ceremony and full ceremonial proclamation of His Majesty was broadcasted live on TV1, Radio and Television Malaysia.

The Yang di-Pertuan Agong is the monarch and head of state of Malaysia. The office was established in 1957 when the Federation of Malaya (now Malaysia) gained independence from the United Kingdom. Malaysia is a constitutional monarchy with an elected monarch as head of state.
His Royal Highness Sultan Muhammad V was chosen as the 15th Yang Di-Pertuan Agong at the 243rd (Special) Conference of Rulers held at the Istana Negara last October 2016. Sultan Muhammad V ascended the office of the Yang Di-Pertuan Agong from His Royal Highness Tuanku Abdul Halim Mu’adzam Shah of Kedah taking effect on December 13th, 2016 for a five-year term.

The eldest of four siblings of Sultan Ismail Petra and Tengku Anis Tengku Abdul Hamid, His Majesty Sultan Muhammad V, aged 47, is the appellation for Tengku Muhammad Faris Petra, who ascended the throne as the 29th Sultan of Kelantan on September 13, 2010. He was first installed the Tengku Mahkota of Kelantan on October 6th, 1985.

His Majesty Sultan Muhammad V had served as the Deputy Yang Di-Pertuan Agong since December 12th, 2011. His Majesty is a ruler of humility with a big heart, concerned with the welfare of his people. Being a people centric monarch, donning the ‘Jubah’ or ‘Baju Melayu’ when meeting his subjects and addressing His Majesty self, ‘ambo’ is an ice breaking royal practice and going the distance to the deep interiors.

Born in October 6th, 1969, His Majesty Sulatan Muhammad V received his early education at the Sekolah Sultan Ismail 1, before continuing his studies at the Alice Smith International School, Kuala Lumpur.

Sultan Muhammad V then enrolled in the Oakham School Rutland, England until 1989 before pursuing diplomatic studies at the St. Cross College, Oxford and the Oxford Centre for Islamic Studies until 1991. A Chancellor at Universiti Malaysia Kelantan, His Majesty spends his time reading and took interest in extreme sports.

As His Royal Highness of Kelantan, he demonstrated humility to his subjects and extends assistance and sincerity that touches the Kelantanese on the streets. He nurtured strong spiritual values among the Muslim community, organizing Qiam With Me programme held yearly since 2011 and charity efforts by the Pertubuhan Kerabat D’Raja Kelantan promoting healthy lifestyle, that became a tourist attraction in the state.

Other charity efforts include being the patron to Yayasan Sultan Kelantan, where destitute and unfortunate members of society are assisted. The foundation also provides education assistance to his subjects. His Majesty Sultan Muhammad V has fostered closer ties between the royal institution and the public segments.

Praise to Allah! Praise to Allah! Praise to Allah!
