A Tragic Loss To The Nation

The nation was overwhelmed with sorrow on the demise of one of it's outstanding child. The reported helicopter crash at 4.50 pm on Saturday which carries six passengers and crew brings a somber mood and words of condolences pouring to the bereaved families.

The crash which occured nearby Kampung Pasir Baru, Semenyih, Kajang killed six people on board the ill fated vehicle as follows:

1. Tan Sri Dr. Jamaluddin Jarjis, MP Rompin
2. Datuk Tan Chin Nam, a businessman from Kedah
3. Datuk Seri Azlin Alias, Private Secretary to the PM
4. Ajdiana Baiziera, the co-pilot
5. Capt Cliff Fourneir, pilot and
6. Mohd Raskin Seran, bodyguard to Tan Sri Jamaluddin

It is with great sorrow that I confirm reports of fatalities in relation to the crash of a civilian helicopter, which occurred earlier today in Semenyih, Kajang. We offer our deepest condolences to the families and loved ones of those affected.

Six people were on board the helicopter, comprising the pilot, Captain Clifford William Fournier, the operations assistant, Aidana Baizieva, Tan Sri Dr Jamaluddin Jarjis and his bodyguard Raza B Seran, Datuk Sri Azlin Alias ​​and Dato 'Tan Huat Seang. The aircraft was owned by IGB Corporation and operated by Cempaka Aviation.

All six remains have been recovered and sent to Hospital Kuala Lumpur. The Department of Civil Aviation has initiated an investigation into this crash.

On a personal note, I am struck by this tragic news, as Tan Sri Dr Jamaluddin and Datuk Sri Chloe were both colleagues of mine whom I knew personally. This is indeed a great loss and my thoughts and prayers are with their families and the families of the other victims during this tragic time.
