MH370: Findings Conclude Search In The Wrong Place

The wreckage of Malaysia Airlines Flight 370 is probably outside the stretch of ocean that international search ships have scoured for the past two years, according to the First Principle Review Report on MH370 released by the Australian Transport Safety Bureau (ATSB) on December 20th 2016.

The new conclusions appeared to be based largely on extensive scientific models of how the debris pieces might have drifted off the ocean which indicated it was more likely the plane had gone down north of the existing search area.

ATSB experts had identified an area of 25,000 square km to the north of the current search area as the area with the highest probability of containing the aircraft wreckage, however affirm should the area to be searched, prospective areas to locate the aircraft wreckage, all the analysis would be exhausted.

Datuk Aziz Karpawi, Deputy Transport Minister told Malaysia will hold a meeting with Australia and China to deliberate on the future direction of the search for Malaysia Airlines MH370 that has been missing since March 8th, 2014 following to the report findings.

The aircraft, Boeing 777-200ER, Flight MH370 disappeared on March 8, 2014, while flying from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing with 239 people on board. Hence, a multinational search triggered the search of the Gulf of Thailand and the South China Sea whence the aircraft’s signal was last detected on the secondary surveillance radar.

Evidence of military radar and ‘pings’ of satellite communications from the aircraft and Immarsat’s satellite communications network, led the search to continue at the southern reaches of the Indian Ocean.

It remains uncertain whether the new zone will be searched. Malaysia, Australia and China, which are funding the search, said they would not extend it, last July. The search operations are currently set to wrap up in early 2017.

And Then There is One

The seabed searches for the missing Malaysian airliner; MH370 has been left to a single ship, with a Chinese vessel heading home to Shanghai. The ill-fated flight MH370 took off from Kuala Lumpur International Airport enroute Beijing International Airport on March 8, 2014 and disappeared from radar.

A Dutch survey ship Fugro Equator will finish the search of the southern Indian Ocean for Malaysia Airlines Flight 370 alone after resupplying at the southwest Australian port of Fremantle, the Australian Transport Safety Bureau (ATSB), which coordinates the search.

The ATSB is leading the underwater search for MH370 in the southern Indian Ocean. Australia has accepted the responsibility on request from the Malaysian Government.
The Chinese ship Dong Hai Jiu 101 had finished searching the 120,000-square-kilometer (46,000-square-mile) expanse last weekend and headed back to Fremantle to drop off equipment before returning to its home port of Shanghai, on December 3.

The Chinese ship in February joined three search vessels operated by the Dutch underwater survey company Fugro in the hunt for the Boeing 777 that authorities say crashed with 239 people aboard far off the southwest coast of Australia on March 8, 2014.

Fugro Equator’s missions in the remaining parts of the 120,000 square-kilometre search area are expected to be completed in January/February 2017. The ship is using a highly maneuverable drone known as an autonomous underwater vehicle to get sonar images of difficult terrain.

Perpetrators Held Responsible

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Mohd Najib Abdul Razak is committed firm action to be taken against the perpetrators in the downing of flight MH17 and promised those responsible will be brought to justice.
The statement was made following the conclusion of international prosecutors investigating the tragedy on 17th July 2014 that killed all 298 passengers and airline crew on board the ill-fated flight en route to Kuala Lumpur from Amsterdam, most of them Dutch citizens.

Investigations had also identified 100 potential suspects of the plane’s downing, shot down by a Russian-made BUK missile launched from eastern Ukraine. At the time of the incident, pro-Russian separatists were fighting the Ukrainian government forces in the region.

Though the Russian government denied any direct involvement in the Ukraine conflict or responsibility in the downing of MH17, it has resulted in the European Union and Unites States to impose sanctions upon Russia.

While the prosecutors from the Netherlands, Australia, Belgium, Malaysia and Ukraine deliberate on the next cause of action, Malaysia Airline System (MAS) has gone through two tragedies; MH370 and MH17 of such magnitude in a span of four months.

The losses dealt by MAS not only impacted its bookings but raised concerns of flight risks and threats. Many aviation experts agreed for a better global aviation system in aircraft tracking, overflying conflict zones and sharing of information between airlines on airspace threats.

Liow Thanks China For Contribution

In an unprecedented move, the Chinese Premier Li Keqiang pledged an additional AUD20 million to bear costs in search of the Malaysia Airlines Flight MH370 that disappeared more than a year ago with 239 people aboard. Most passengers of the ill fated aircraft were Chinese and the Chinese  government vowed to spare no effort to locate and recover the plane.

The MH370 disappeared on March 8, 2014, en route from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing. While the French investigators have identified a washed-up piece of airplane debris found in July on a remote island in the Indian Ocean, the La Réunion as part of the said craft.

The multinational search has thus far costs over AUD120 million covering hundreds thousand of square kilometers in the southern region of the Indian Ocean.

His Excellency Li made the announcement during a meeting with the Australian Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull on Saturday, where the Asia-Pacific leaders were holding a regional summit; the 27th ASEAN Summit in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

In a gesture of appreciation and gratefulness, the Honorary Transport Minister of Malaysia, Liow Tiong Lai express a heartfelt message on behalf of the Malaysian government and its people of the contribution by Premier Li Keqiang in the collaborative efforts with the Chinese and the Australian government in their continual searched for the aircraft.

Following is the full media statement from the office of the Transport Minister of Malaysia.

PRESS STATEMENT

BY YB DATO' SRI LIOW TIONG LAI, MINISTER OF TRANSPORT, MALAYSIA

Liow: Malaysia Grateful for China’s On-Going Support

Malaysia would like to express our deepest appreciation to His Excellency Premier Li Keqiang and the People’s Republic of China for their contribution of AUD20 million to the on-going search efforts for MH370. This contribution will undoubtedly assist Malaysia and Australia in the on-going search for MH370.

I would also like to take this opportunity to express my sincere gratitude to my fellow ASEAN members who have contributed to the search for MH370. In Malaysia's time of need, your unwavering support has been invaluable, and a testament to the close ties between our nations.

Since that fateful day in March of last year, no effort has been spared in the search for MH370. The search strategy working group team, led by the Joint Agency Coordination Centre and the Australian Transport Safety Bureau, comprising experts from various international organisations, have collaborated to independently review and refine all available data pertaining to this search.

As announced in April 2015, Malaysia together with China and Australia are fully committed to completing the underwater search within the extended search zone of 120,000 square kilometres.

As this is a remote location with adverse sea and weather conditions, it continues to pose a challenge for the search and recovery team. Nevertheless, we will certainly persevere with this search.

The unprecedented level of support, collaboration and cooperation given by the Governments of Australia and China has been instrumental during what has been a trying time for our nation. We are committed to the search for MH370.

Pencarian Untuk MH370 Belum Berakhir!

Charlie Hebdo Mesti DiPertanggungjawabkan

The Search Carries On For MH370

The media communities were hot on the trail to the Malaysia Prime Minister Dato’ Sri Mohd Najib’s early morning media conference on flight MH370 on Thursday. Following which a Ministry of Transportation media conference was called to brief and answer some of the beckoning questions that may allay concerns from the bereaved families and loved ones of the said flight.

“It has been a trying time for the families of the passengers and the crew on board of the ill fated MH370. No words can express the pain and sorrows they have gone through this one and a half year.

Without physical proof, it has been challenging and now we have physical proof which brings us closer to the truth and closure.

A few hours ago our Prime Minister has confirmed that the ‘flaperon’ is from MH370.

Our Malaysian team of experts in Toulouse have indeed confirmed the parts were from MH370. This conclusion was reached as the technical details of the ‘flaperon’ matched with the MAS's record.

I appreciate that investigators need to continue with the verification process and conduct further tests. We appreciate the support of the French authorities and respect that they have chosen to continue with the investigation and verification process.

The ‘flaperon’ recovery location is consistent with the drift analysis determined by the experts (The Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation of Australia).

In Malaysia's time of need we have been blessed with tremendous support from many nations including China, Australia, USA, France, UK and others.” said Dato’ Seri Liow Tiong Lai, Malaysia Minister of Transport in his message.

On concerns raised by some families as to Malaysia confirming the ‘flaperon’, Dato’ Sri Liow further emphasized, it was evident on the MAS’s maintenance record with the colours and other technical details were indeed from the ill fated MH370. With due respect to the French 'non' affirmation; the fragments and additional debris were found in their territory thus requires continued tests and verification to be meted out.

The search for flight MH370 has covered an area spanned over 60,000 km which equates to 85% of the Indian Ocean, is now stretched to additional 60,000 km (totaled to 95%) considering the drift pattern of the area. The remaining five per cent is the whole of the Indian Ocean.

“Therefore we are convinced that the way forward is indeed MH370 located in the south of the Indian Ocean and now we have found part of the wreckage MH370 and we will further discuss whether to continue looking at existing areas or to another.

I have telephoned the China Minister of Transport and have discussed to select the dates as soon as possible for the three nations (Australia, China and Malaysia) to meet and discuss what to do next.

Presently there are two vessels plying the region on a search mission. China has promised to add another vessel to the fleet.

Meanwhile we are waiting for an expert opinion on the search area. The search will continue until the end of this year or early next year.” said Liow.

Confirmed Debris From MH370

The mysteries of flight MH370 disappearance, since it's departure on the 8th March 2014 has brought about many hours determining it's final rest to the loved ones and the nation which attracted the world attention.

With the findings of the suspected debris that washed ashore on the Réunion island on the 29th July, the search mission has escalated to verify and confirming the debris; flaperon, was part of the ill fated flight. The flaperon is the first physical evidence of what happened to the plane and the 239 people on board.

French deputy prosecutor Serge Mackowiak said that experts have “very strong suppositions" (also translated as “presumptions”) that the flaperon belonged to MH370. He said the experts had matched it to the Boeing 777 specifications of MH370, and that the team would begin further analysis on Thursday.

Friends and family of MH370’s passengers and crew expressed little relief at the announcement, despite repeated condolences from the authorities. Instead they pleaded for search teams to resolve the mystery of their loved ones’ fate.

But analysts also warned that debris may be scattered across a huge region, and almost certainly require MH370’s black box to discover what happened to the plane. The breakthrough in the search could help investigators retrace the ocean currents that brought the flaperon to Réunion, and any damage patterns or other clues on the debris may help the experts develop theories about the aircraft’s destruction.

The Réunion, a French island located in the Indian Ocean. It is situated east of Madagascar and about 175 kilometres (109 mi) southwest of Mauritius, the nearest island.

A full text statement from the Malaysian Prime Minister, Dato' Sri Mohd Najib Razak on the news disclosed early this morning.
On 8 March 2014, flight MH370 from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing disappeared. The days, weeks and months that followed have been a period of torment for the families of those on board.
The plane’s disappearance was without precedent. At every stage, we followed the tiny amount of evidence that existed. But, despite the efforts of 26 nations and the largest search in aviation history, from the South China Sea to the Indian Ocean, the plane could not be located.
Neither could investigations by the world’s leading aviation experts answer why MH370 veered off course and went dark. While the plane’s disappearance remained a mystery, we have shared the anguish of those who could find no comfort.
Last week, on 29th July, we were informed by the French authorities that part of an aircraft wing had been found on Reunion, the French island in the Indian Ocean.
Today, 515 days since the plane disappeared, it is with a heavy heart that I must tell you that an international team of experts have conclusively confirmed that the aircraft debris found on Reunion Island is indeed from MH370.
We now have physical evidence that, as I announced on 24th March last year, flight MH370 tragically ended in the southern Indian Ocean.
This is a remote, inhospitable and dangerous area, and on behalf of Malaysia, I would like to thank the many nations, organisations and individuals who have participated in the search.
The burden and uncertainty faced by the families during this time has been unspeakable. It is my hope that this confirmation, however tragic and painful, will at least bring certainty to the families and loved ones of the 239 people on board MH370. They have our deepest sympathy and prayers.
I would like to assure all those affected by this tragedy that the government of Malaysia is committed to do everything within our means to find out the truth of what happened. MH370’s disappearance marked us as a nation. We mourn with you, as a nation.
And I promise you this: Malaysia will always remember and honour those who were lost on board MH370.

Kepimpinan MCA Menabur Bakti Bukan Cakap Sahaja
